Persian and Sleeping Beauty (Arizona) turquoise are traditionally considered the finest quality.

Natural, untreated turquoise is the most valuable and increasingly rare — much commercial turquoise is stabilised (impregnated with resin to harden it and deepen its colour). Ask your jeweller whether a turquoise piece is natural or stabilised.

Across many cultures, turquoise is a stone of protection, good fortune, and healing. Native American traditions consider it a sacred stone that bridges heaven and earth. In ancient Persia, turquoise was worn by warriors on their horses and armour as protection in battle. It is the December birthstone.
