Measuring Ring Size: How to Do It Right

Measuring ring size is one of the most common jewelry pitfalls. Too tight = hurts. Too loose = falls off. With these methods, you can measure precisely – whether for yourself or secretly for a surprise.

Method 1: Measuring Tape or String Method

  1. Place a thin strip of paper or string around your ring finger
  2. Mark where it overlaps
  3. Measure the length in millimeters
  4. Circumference ÷ 3.14 = Diameter in mm
  5. Convert to EU size (table below)

Method 2: Measuring an Existing Ring

Place a well-fitting ring (ring finger!) on white paper, measure the inner diameter with a ruler. Then look it up in the size chart.

EU Size Chart (Inner Diameter)

  • 14.8 mm = Size 46
  • 15.3 mm = Size 48
  • 15.7 mm = Size 49
  • 16.2 mm = Size 51
  • 16.5 mm = Size 52
  • 17.2 mm = Size 54
  • 17.8 mm = Size 56
  • 18.2 mm = Size 57
  • 18.8 mm = Size 59
  • 19.4 mm = Size 61

Important Notes When Measuring

  • Always measure in the evening – fingers are up to one size smaller in the morning
  • Dominant hand often has larger fingers
  • Wide rings (6+ mm) fit more snugly – choose half a size larger
  • If in doubt: buy larger and have it resized (easier than enlarging)

Method 3: Order a Ring Sizer

Many jewelers send free plastic ring sizers – a set of rings in all sizes that you try on and test. Ideal for online purchases.

Order free ring sizing help from corelunejewellery.de – free sizer upon request, free resizing in the first month.
