Sapphire Jewellery: The Timeless Stone of Royalty and Wisdom
Kurz gesagt: From Princess Diana's iconic ring to everyday elegance, sapphires are enduringly beautiful. Corelune Jewellery's sapphire guide covers everything from color to care.

Sapphire: The Gem of Royalty and Wisdom

The sapphire is one of the world's most beloved gemstones — prized by royalty, clergy, and gem lovers for thousands of years. Sapphires represent wisdom, loyalty, nobility, and divine favor. When Prince Charles presented Lady Diana Spencer with a 12-carat oval blue sapphire engagement ring in 1981, the world fell in love with this magnificent gem all over again. At Corelune Jewellery, sapphires remain one of our most popular and admired stones.

Sapphire Colors — Not Just Blue!

While blue is the most famous and classic sapphire color, sapphires actually occur in almost every color of the rainbow. Pink, yellow, orange, green, purple, and white (colorless) sapphires are all available. The remarkable orange-pink variety known as padparadscha is among the rarest and most coveted of all sapphires.

What Makes a Blue Sapphire the Best?

The finest blue sapphires display a rich, velvety cornflower blue or royal blue color with excellent saturation and brilliance. The most prized come from Kashmir (now extremely rare), Burma (Myanmar), and Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Madagascan and Australian sapphires are also of high quality and more readily available.

Sapphire Quality Grading

As with all colored stones, color is the primary value driver. Clarity is secondary — sapphires commonly contain inclusions, and an eye-clean sapphire with exceptional color is far more desirable than a flawless stone with a mediocre color. Cut is also important, as a well-cut stone will maximize color and brilliance.

Sapphire Hardness and Durability

Sapphire is one of the hardest natural materials on earth, scoring 9 on the Mohs scale — second only to diamond. This makes sapphire jewelry exceptionally durable and suitable for everyday wear, including engagement rings.

Sapphire Jewelry Occasions

Sapphire is the September birthstone and the traditional gift for a 45th wedding anniversary. It is a wonderful choice for engagement rings, anniversary pieces, and any jewelry that is meant to be worn and treasured for a lifetime.
