Why is jewelry photography so demanding?

Jewelry presents particular problems for photography:

• Reflections: Shiny metal surfaces reflect everything—the camera, the photographer, the environment. Controlling these unwanted reflections is the biggest challenge.
• Small details: Fine engravings, small stone inclusions, and delicate chains require macro shots that are difficult to achieve with standard smartphones.
• Depth of field: In close-ups, the range of depth of field is very shallow; it is difficult to keep an entire piece of jewelry in focus.
