Woran erkenne ich, dass eine Beschichtung nachgibt?

Zuerst an Kanten, Verschlüssen und der Innenseite von Ringen, weil dort dauerhaft Reibung entsteht. Der Farbton wird an diesen Stellen kühler oder gräulich. Das ist normaler Verschleiß und kein Materialfehler, verlangsamen lässt es sich durch Wechseln zwischen mehreren Stücken.

The greatest enemy in summer: Saltwater

The sea is beautiful, but it is an aggressive environment for jewelry. Saltwater contains chlorides that react chemically with metals. Particularly affected:

Gold-plated jewelry: Saltwater accelerates the peeling of gold plating dramatically. A gold-plated piece loses in a few hours in the sea what it would otherwise lose in months.
Silver jewelry: Tarnishes significantly faster due to saltwater contact; sulfur compounds in seawater react with silver.
Yellow gold (585/750): More resistant, but even real gold suffers damage over time from constant saltwater contact.
Solid stainless steel: The most saltwater-resistant jewelry, remains unchanged.

Recommendation: Take off valuable jewelry before swimming in the sea. Only bring weather-resistant stainless steel pieces or affordable fashion jewelry to the beach.

Chlorine in the pool: An underestimated risk

Recommendation: Always take off all gold rings before entering the pool. Always. Stainless steel survives pool water without any problems.

Sunscreen: The invisible enemy of jewelry
