Welche Kettenlänge ist die häufigste Bestellgröße?

45 cm. Diese Länge fällt bei den meisten Halsumfängen genau auf das Schlüsselbein und passt unter fast jedes Oberteil. 42 cm wird häufig gewählt, wenn die Kette sichtbar über dem Kragen sitzen soll, 50 cm eher, wenn ein Anhänger tiefer hängen soll.

Verheddert sich eine dünne Kette schneller?

Ja, unter 1 mm Breite bilden sich beim Ablegen leicht Knoten, besonders wenn die Kette lose in einer Tasche liegt. Zwei Gegenmittel: die Kette geschlossen aufbewahren statt offen, und beim Reisen durch einen Trinkhalm ziehen. Ab 1,5 mm tritt das Problem deutlich seltener auf.

Warum fühlt sich mein Verschluss schwergängig an?

In der Feder haben sich Hautfett, Creme oder Salzreste festgesetzt. Bewege den Verschluss in warmem Seifenwasser mehrfach auf und zu und arbeite mit einer weichen Zahnbürste nach. Danach gründlich abspülen und vollständig trocknen lassen.

In short: A waterproof necklace for everyday use measures between 42 and 45 cm for most women and is 1 to 2 mm wide. Made of stainless steel, it stays on your neck while showering, swimming, and sleeping without tarnishing. The clasp is more important than the material: a lobster claw clasp of at least 8 mm opens less frequently on its own than the small spring rings found on cheaper chains.

Most chains that fail in everyday life don't fail because of water. They are too short, too thin, or have a clasp that opens in the collar of a sweater. That is why I am providing the numbers here before discussing the material.

Length and width in numbers

Regarding width: 1 mm looks delicate and disappears under the collar; from 3 mm on, the chain becomes a visible piece of jewelry. For a chain that remains on your neck permanently, 1.5 to 2 mm is the most comfortable compromise because it doesn't dig in while still not tangling as easily.

Why stainless steel here?

Silver tarnishes in contact with sweat and shower gel; gold-plated brass loses its coating at friction points and then turns greenish. Stainless steel does neither. This means you can put on a Corelune chain and simply forget about it—that is the whole idea behind the collection. One downside you should be aware of: stainless steel cannot be shortened like a silver chain at a jeweler's. The length you order is the length you get. Therefore, it is better to measure your neck with a tape measure beforehand.

If you want to categorize the price, you should distinguish between material value and utility value. Sterling silver starts at about thirty euros, solid gold only in the triple-digit range; in between lies the entire costume jewelry market. If you are unsure, start with a basic piece and add more later, rather than spending a lot at once.

What care do jewelry pieces really need?

Unlike silver, jewelry pieces do not need to be polished; a regular wipe-down is sufficient. Abrasive agents, toothpaste, and ultrasonic cleaners cause more harm than good, especially with glued-in stones. This way, your jewelry will stay in the same condition it was in when you bought it for years to come.

Yes. Neither water nor shower gel attacks the steel. For gold-colored chains, it is still worth not applying shampoo and conditioner directly to them, because residues can make the surface look dull. Rinsing briefly and drying with a cloth is enough to maintain the shine.

Why does my clasp feel stiff?

Skin oil, lotion, or salt residues have accumulated in the spring. Move the clasp back and forth several times in warm soapy water and work on it with a soft toothbrush. Then rinse thoroughly and let it dry completely.
